Battling Steroid Induced Eczema

15 months steroid free

I think I stopped counting the months at some point. I think it was when Zainab’s last major flare ended. I think we’ve transitioned into the world of “normal eczema”. She looks normal. Just some dry flaky skin here and there on her back, neck and face and inside her elbows. We live an ordinary life, no more screaming, she jumps and shouts and plays like a wild little thing. She wears short sleeves and does not wake up up in the middle of the night.

I try to pretend that the nightmare of topical steroid withdrawal never happened. I don’t want to remember it. I want to move on, but I need to try somehow to stop this from happening to other children. Right now I’m not sure how.
